Jim Avery

Founder & Personal Injury Attorney

Jim Avery is the esteemed founding attorney of Avery Injury Law, located in St. Louis, Missouri. His decision to establish the firm was driven by his personal experience of sustaining serious injuries in a car crash, which required extensive surgery.

Jim's academic journey began with an undergraduate degree from the UMSL, where he also served as the Student Body President, showcasing his leadership skills. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the SLU, where he excelled in trial advocacy.

With an exceptional record of service, Jim served as a three-time combat veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1991 to 1995. Following the events of September 11, 2001, he joined the Missouri Army National Guard. During his combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, Jim served in units specializing in IED destruction missions. Despite the mental and physical challenges, he found fulfillment in serving his country and was honored with the Army Commendation Medal for his exceptional efforts in finding and destroying IEDs. After completing his tour in Iraq, he attended Officer Training School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Known for his technical expertise and ability to thrive under pressure, Jim provides tenacious representation to his clients, utilizing his innate skills and unwavering commitment to seek justice. In addition to his legal work, Jim currently serves as a board member of the Hero's Network, an organization dedicated to providing aid and support to military families and first responders. While Jim retired from the military in 2022 after 23 years of service, his commitment to serving his country remains steadfast. Outside of his professional pursuits, Jim is also an avid pilot, enjoying his free time flying his Cessna aircraft.

Megan

Personal Injury Attorney

Megan, a compassionate and determined advocate, was drawn to the field of personal injury law due to her strong desire to assist individuals who have suffered unjust injuries. Her primary focus lies in cultivating personal connections with her clients while diligently working towards securing fair treatment and the complete, just compensation they deserve.

During her time in law school, Megan worked as a clerk at Legal Services of Eastern Missouri in the Children's Legal Alliance. There, she provided support to families during Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and fought for equitable treatment for children with physical and learning disabilities. With firsthand experience growing up alongside a disabled sibling, Megan has been a longstanding volunteer for organizations such as the Special Olympics of Missouri, the Disabled Athlete Sports Association, and the I-Skate Program. Additionally, Megan interned at a family law firm where she drafted wills, adoption decrees, and blog articles focusing on the intricate aspects of family law matters.

Upon passing the Missouri Bar exam, Megan dedicated five years of service at the St. Charles County Counselor's office. In this role, she represented multiple municipal departments in civil defense and also served as a deputized prosecutor at the St. Charles County Prosecutor's Office, handling criminal cases and DWI charges. Megan particularly found fulfillment in her representation of the Public Administrator and involvement in the associated probate court process. Her diverse background encompasses municipal law, family law, healthcare law, civil defense, and criminal prosecution, offering a unique perspective to her work. Transitioning from representing large public entities, Megan has rediscovered her passion for advocating for individuals, as she values the opportunity to meet and understand their personal experiences on a human level.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Megan enjoys traveling with her husband, Tony, spending quality time with her dogs, indulging in reading and drawing, and showcasing her talent in creating custom-decorated sugar cookies. Megan and Tony actively contribute to charitable organizations, with a particular focus on supporting law enforcement, first responder, and military families.
